Honor and Gratitude

This post has nothing to do with gardening or woodworking, and everything to do with living in Winterset. It’s Memorial Day, and this awesome little town does not disappoint. Admittedly I didn’t participate in many of the John Wayne Days activities, but this morning I trekked over to the cemetery for the Veterans Memorial service. I’m not much of a photographer so the photos don’t do this justice, but it was an awesome site. 576 flags lined the roads through the cemetery honoring Veterans from Winterset. There was a brief parade led by the high school marching band, followed by a service of honor and remembrance. The Color Guard was present, there was a fly over, and following the service they awarded 13 Quilts of Valor. I may or may not have teared up a bit. Thanks to all for your service and sacrifices, and to the organizers of this humbling event.
